On April 26, 2020, I published a chapter entitled, “Is Japan Really Not Discussing Whether the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Is Natural or Artificial?”
I am republishing that chapter here.
Japan has four monthly magazines that should be required reading not only for the Japanese people but also for people throughout the world.
Last night, September 2, I concluded that watching television news was, in every respect, a waste of time, and instead read the articles and papers that I had left unfinished.
Every one of them was genuine.
Although doing so kept me awake for about an hour beyond my intended bedtime.
Among them was another painstaking work by Kazue Fujiwara, whom I have introduced several times.
I have never watched TV Asahi’s daytime talk and news programs.
Nevertheless, the program known as Hatori Shinichi Morning Show is reportedly an indescribably appalling production, as are Tamagawa and certain other TV Asahi employees appearing on it.
The very reason they report on the coronavirus crisis in that manner is to divert viewers’ attention from the truth conveyed in this chapter.
In other words, all of them continue to serve, whether directly or indirectly, as agents for China.
China must be smiling with satisfaction.
The following passage is taken from an article by nonfiction writer Keiko Kawasoe entitled “The Spread of the Wuhan Virus: China’s Grave Responsibility,” published in the monthly magazine WiLL, which went on sale the day before yesterday and which every Japanese citizen should read.
Her article demonstrates how far newspapers such as the Asahi Shimbun and television broadcasters such as NHK stand from the proper ground of journalism.
The five Ws and one H constitute not only the foundation of journalism but also the very form of intelligence.
The media organizations named above, in which these essentials are completely absent, have not merely disqualified themselves as journalistic institutions.
They are organizations devoid of intelligence.
Her article may be the strongest possible warning to Japan, where media of this kind dominate the nation’s living rooms.

Chapter One: A World-Renowned Authority Suspects That the Novel Coronavirus Is Artificial
The Same Kind of Lie
“Is Japan really not discussing whether the novel coronavirus—COVID-19—is natural or artificial?”
These were the words that Dr. Anthony T. Tu, professor emeritus at Colorado State University, repeatedly asked in astonishment after arriving in Japan in early March.
Dr. Tu was born in Taipei in 1930, during the period of Japanese rule.
After graduating from the College of Science at National Taiwan University, he went to the United States.
He conducted chemical research at Stanford University and Yale University and subsequently became a professor at Colorado State University.
His specialty is toxins, including snake venom.
Because one of the toxin weapons produced in Uzbekistan, then a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, involved cobra neurotoxin, he served for many years from the 1980s onward as an adviser to the United States on biological weapons.
He has also assisted the US government in such work as the creation of toxin databases.
He published an eight-volume English-language reference work on natural toxins, the fundamentals of which must be understood by anyone involved with biological or chemical weapons.
He is, indeed, a world-renowned authority.
He is also known for his contributions to Japan.
Following the series of sarin attacks committed by Aum Shinrikyo, he instructed the Japanese police in methods for detecting sarin in soil.
In recognition of that contribution, he received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, in 2009.
Dr. Tu, who is well aware that Hankou in Wuhan has long been a center of toxicological research, continued:
“From the beginning, I have believed that the virus may have escaped from a laboratory conducting research into toxins and biological chemistry. It is true that some experts say that an artificial origin is impossible. However, the grounds offered in rebuttal are invariably weak: ‘No one would use something so dangerous because bacteria and viruses would eventually return to those who released them,’ or ‘China is a party to the Biological Weapons Convention—the BWC.’”
Dr. Tu also spoke about the anthrax incident that occurred in the Soviet Union in 1979.
“At the time, the Soviet authorities announced that it had happened because people had eaten spoiled mutton. Investigations conducted after the collapse of the Soviet Union, however, revealed the truth: the ventilation system had become clogged, anthrax had escaped from another location, and many people living nearby had died.”
From the beginning, the Chinese authorities repeatedly claimed that the novel coronavirus had spread from people who ate bats sold at a seafood wholesale market in Wuhan.
Dr. Tu suggested that this might have been “the same kind of sophistry.”
Research Papers That Attracted Dr. Tu’s Attention
Dr. Tu continued:
“Following the September 2001 terrorist attacks, an anthrax terrorist incident occurred in the United States. Biological and chemical weapons can target not only human beings but also livestock and other animals, textiles, and plants. Therefore, we do not know who is creating them or for what purpose. It is nevertheless certain that many countries conduct such research. In the United States, research for defensive purposes is permitted, and the collection of information about enemy countries is regarded as particularly important.”
Regarding the research team led by Shi Zhengli at the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and its published work, he said:
“The research team repeatedly conducted studies intended to make SARS—severe acute respiratory syndrome—viruses extracted from bats cross the species barrier. In November 2015, Shi Zhengli reported in Nature Medicine that the team had succeeded in developing a virus capable of damaging the respiratory systems of mice by modifying a SARS virus. They may explain that the purpose of the research was vaccine development, but it is unnatural to research a vaccine for a virus that is not circulating. Moreover, as this research also shows, bat viruses do not naturally infect human beings.”
Dr. Tu also took note of papers proposing that the novel coronavirus may have been produced by modifying a SARS virus.
“The novel coronavirus is closely related to SARS, but there are four clear molecular differences. These are not the kind of differences that occur naturally. The findings reported by Professor Pradhan and his colleagues in India are highly interesting. They noted that parts of the protruding structures of HIV and the Wuhan virus closely resemble one another. Their paper argues that four genetic sequences derived from HIV were artificially inserted into the genetic sequence of a SARS virus, making it more capable of infecting human beings, and that this became the present novel coronavirus.”
