A Nobel Prize–Style Fraud
Nebraska is hot during the day and cold at night.
The weather changes easily, and consequently, many of the people raised there are temperamental.
Anna Louise Strong is said to be the prime example.
After discovering communism at the University of Chicago, she became completely absorbed in it and, acting on impulse, flew off to the Soviet Union.
A spirited American woman could be useful.
Stalin, too, allowed her to do as she pleased.
At the time, the great famine in Ukraine and the purges were rampant, but she could not see them.
She published an English-language newspaper in Moscow and continued proclaiming the virtues of communism.
Before long, the temperamental Anna also became interested in Mao Zedong’s China, met Zhou Enlai in Chongqing, and visited Yan’an.
A document survives to this day in which Mao instructed Deng Xiaoping concerning her desire to see the front lines: “It will make good propaganda. Treat her courteously.”
Perhaps she was pleased by such treatment, because in 1958 Anna abandoned the Soviet Union and settled in Beijing.
She presumably believed China to be the ideal communist state, but that same year Mao launched the “Great Leap Forward,” which caused 30 million people to starve to death.
At the same time, in Tibet, he ordered the slaughter of tens of thousands of people who resisted the Chinese invasion.
While traveling through Lhasa, where the blood had not yet dried, she praised Mao by declaring, “In China, those who commit crimes are neither executed nor expelled.”
It was the language of a communist who showed no hesitation in lying, but it is said that she made such categorical assertions for the sake of her nephew, Maurice Strong.
Thanks to her, her Canadian-born nephew used his aunt’s connections to penetrate deeply into China’s ruling class.
Two years after Anna’s death, Maurice, backed by China, which had only recently entered the United Nations, was appointed secretary-general of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment.

The catalyst was the theory of the “radiation balance,” which was presented at Princeton University at the time.
When the amount of heat the Earth receives from the sun and the amount of heat the Earth releases were measured, the surprising result was that the Earth emits more heat and should therefore have an average temperature of minus 17 degrees Celsius.
The explanation was that the Earth is maintained at an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius thanks to CO₂, which accounts for only 0.03 percent of the atmosphere.
From this came the assumption that if the amount of CO₂ increased, global warming would advance rapidly.
The Chinese and Maurice used that alone to devise a fraudulent scheme.
Advanced industrial nations that emit large quantities of CO₂ should purchase emissions rights from developing countries.
China, however, although responsible for one-third of the world’s emissions, was treated as a developing country and exempted from the scheme.
It was the prerogative of the country that devised the fraud.
Maurice brought Al Gore into the fold and portrayed in An Inconvenient Truth the claim that global warming had already become a reality, that the polar bears of the Arctic Ocean would become extinct, and that the snows of Kilimanjaro would disappear.
Without delay, Maurice and China launched the second phase.
It was the declaration: “The age of electric vehicles, which emit no CO₂, has arrived.”
EVs run on batteries.
The rare metal neodymium is indispensable to them, and it is produced only in Inner Mongolia.
China would reap all the profits.
To the objection, “But switching to EVs will require enormous quantities of electricity,” the answer was, “We have Chinese-made solar panels ready for you.”
Japan’s sophisticated internal-combustion engines, led by Toyota, would no longer be needed.
It was a strategy for China to dominate the world through rare metals and inexpensive motors.
Yet a considerable amount of time has passed since Al Gore’s predictions, and polar bears have instead increased, while snow continues to fall on Kilimanjaro.
Just as everyone began scratching their heads, Maurice became wanted in connection with a separate fraud involving the United Nations and, like his aunt, fled to China.
The swindler who had used the environment as his material then passed away without saying anything.
Syukuro Manabe, a senior researcher at Princeton University, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.
When told that the reason for the award was “the prediction of climate change,” he responded candidly, “For that? I am surprised.”
