A friend of mine, one of the most widely read people I know, had often told me about the real Kiyoshi Yamashita, the painter.
The many episodes he related in order to make me laugh always did exactly that—they made me smile.
Then, after reading “starry starry night,” in which I wrote about what had happened to me the previous day, that friend gave me a very welcome gift today.
He told me that he had recently visited an exhibition bringing together Hiroshige and Kiyoshi Yamashita at the Sagawa Art Museum, located in a remote part of Shiga Prefecture.
Words exchanged between people, memories, and encounters with art sometimes become connected in unexpected ways.
This is a record of one such day.
