Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea
The Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea (Treaty No. 25 of Showa 40) / Korean: 대한민국과 일본국 간의 기본 관계에 관한 조약 (大韓民國과 日本國 間의 基本關係에 관한 條約) is a treaty concluded between Japan and the Republic of Korea on June 22, 1965 (Showa 40).
Commonly known as the Japan–Korea Basic Treaty.
It stipulated Japan’s enormous economic cooperation with South Korea, the complete and final settlement of all claims by South Korea against Japan, and the normalization of relations based on these arrangements.
The Takeshima (Korean name: Dokdo) issue was shelved as a matter to be handled through dispute resolution.
