The following is an essay sent to the world from a hospital room on 2011/08/07.
In response to what I said I would leave as a mystery, to put it in a way that is characteristically mine, extremely simply and plainly, I will say just one thing.
Unlike those who, like Yoshimoto Takaaki, gained fame and status, and at the same time fulfilled their desire for the propagation of their own DNA, living a rather comfortable and indulgent life, and thus were able to walk a so-called “cultural” life,
I am a person who has lived the life of a “worker, Italo-Francese.”
Bob Dylan and John Lennon were never cultural figures.
Like me, they were workers.
The other day, to my surprise—“Huh!”—I realized that Andy Warhol was also never a cultural figure, but a worker. …In his case, the truth is probably that he was a worker who served Jesus Christ.
