A Country That Lets an Italian Journalist Humiliate Japan Cannot Remain Stable.—The Figure of Pio d’Emilia and the True Worth of Japan Illuminated by The Turntable of Civilization—

This passage is a fierce criticism of the Italian journalist Pio d’Emilia, whom the author believes insulted Japan and the Japanese people through his conduct at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan.
Precisely because the author has long held deep affection for Italy, he argues that continuing to allow such a figure to remain active in Japan is a disgrace to Italy itself, and that permitting people like him to attack and demean Japan is not unrelated to the instability of Italian society.
Positioning the insult toward Yoshiko Sakurai as especially unforgivable, the author further insists that Japan is the country where “The Turntable of Civilization” is turning, and warns sternly that any nation allowing such wicked conduct there will face its due consequence.

It is hardly an exaggeration to say that the reason Italian society continues in instability is that it has, unbelievably, allowed people of this sort to attack Japan and demean Japan.

I am republishing the chapter I sent out on 2018-12-27 under the title, The manner in which he insulted her, to the utmost possible degree, at the press conference venue of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, is truly unforgivable.
As those around me well know, I love Italy.
And now I have something I want to say to Italy.
Pio d’Emilia, who acts as though he controls the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan…。This man is probably someone under the influence of the intelligence organs of the anti-Japanese states of China and the Korean Peninsula…。
He cannot possibly be a decent journalist.
Such an ugly and lowest-level human being…。
If many Italians are Catholics and hold reverence for those who have been called saints in history, then all the more so…。
Recall this disgrace of Italy to the home country at once.
It was several decades ago, when I was visiting the home of a classmate and close friend who was living in Rome, that I conceived The Turntable of Civilization.
In July 2010, unwillingly, I thus appeared on the Internet and began to write.
From August four years before that, especially when I had subscribed to Asahi Shimbun in order to learn about postwar Japan, I began to discover many truths I had not known at all.
Among them…。when I learned that Italy, although it was in a sense an allied country that had stood on the side of the defeated nations, had nevertheless taken advantage of Japan’s defeat to exact reparations from Japan…。
my infinite elegy toward Italy lost at least one hundred yen of its value.
When an Italian such as the above-mentioned Pio d’Emilia…。
insulted Yoshiko Sakurai, who is a true saint existing in Japan today and the person most worthy of receiving the People’s Honor Award…。
at the press conference venue of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, and did so in the most insulting manner possible, it was truly unforgivable.
As for how deeply it damaged the feelings of the Japanese people…。
my infinite elegy toward Italy…。
plunged as sharply as the collapse of the Italian economy.
It is hardly an exaggeration to say that the reason Italian society continues in instability is…。
that it has, unbelievably, allowed people of this sort to attack Japan and demean Japan.
Just think about it.
Not a single Japanese person…。
in your country, would attack or demean a saint-like figure worthy of your country’s highest national honor.
There is not even one such Japanese in Italy.
That too is part of what it means that The Turntable of Civilization is turning.
Why is Italy…。a country whose society has remained unstable throughout the postwar era, and that so often becomes a burden upon Europe…。
as it is?
It is hardly an exaggeration to say that it is the result of retribution for, unbelievably, letting fools like this loose in foreign lands.
Especially now, Japan is the country where The Turntable of Civilization is turning…。
and as readers know, I placed its beginning in Italy, almost as though together with Byron…。
Because in Japan you are letting such a vile person commit evil deeds…。
the punishment of God falls upon you.
