Okinawa’s Two Newspapers and the Pitfall of Democracy: Targets of Operations Aimed at Dividing Japan

Written on May 13, 2019, this short essay argues that the Okinawa Times and the Ryukyu Shimpo have naturally become prime targets of anti-Japan influence operations from China and the Korean Peninsula, and, by comparing their role with that once played by the Asahi Shimbun, sharply criticizes the vulnerability of democracy and the danger of attempts to divide Japan.

It is only natural that the Okinawa Times and the Ryukyu Shimpo have become targets of operations by China and the Korean Peninsula, where to “bottomless evil” and “plausible lies” has been added the evil of communism.
The condition in which the Asahi Shimbun was allowed to dominate Japan until August five years ago, and the condition in which the Okinawa Times and the Ryukyu Shimpo are now allowed to dominate Okinawa Prefecture…
In particular, the condition in which these two newspapers are still being allowed to dominate Okinawa Prefecture now,
this is the pitfall of democracy and the vulnerability of democracy.
It is only natural that the Okinawa Times and the Ryukyu Shimpo have become targets of operations by China and the Korean Peninsula, where to “bottomless evil” and “plausible lies” has been added the evil of communism.
In other words, these two newspapers are… the ideal targets for the daily schemes of “bottomless evil” and “plausible lies” aimed at separating Japan and the United States, dividing Japan, and weakening Japan.
