The “Green New Deal” and the Biden administration have been buzzing about it, but it is wrong to rely on China even for environmental issues.
A friend of mine, an accomplished reader, urged me to subscribe to this book because a chapter in it proves that your editorial is 100% correct.
The book is a dialogue between Masahiro Miyazaki, the world’s best China watcher, and Shi Ping.
This book is a must-read for the people of Japan and the people of the world.
Every citizen who can read the book should subscribe to it at the nearest bookstore.
I will tell the world, especially the West, as much as I can.

The following is a continuation of the previous chapter.
The “Green New Deal” is a lie
Shí Píng
In his interview with Yoshiko Sakurai, “The Decarbonization Trap That Will Lead to Japan’s Crisis: China Behind the Scenes” (“WiLL April 2021”), Mr. Sugiyama also pointed out that environmental NGOs such as Greenpeace do not speak out against China but rather praise it.

The “Green New Deal” and the Biden administration have been buzzing about it, but it is wrong to rely on China even for environmental issues.
More than 30 years ago, one of the pillars of Japan’s political and business support for China was the Green Deal.
If there are too many bald mountains, they will cause floods and landslides.
When mountains lose their water-holding capacity, cliffs will collapse, roads will be shrubby, and houses near river mouths will be buried under ten feet of sand.
Therefore, many money and human resources were invested in tree planting projects to make the mountains greener.
When the people who cooperated with us went to the plantation site in China a year later, they found no more trees anywhere, and the mountain had returned to its original baldness.
It was because the residents had overcut the trees and used them for fuel.
There are only a few cases of successful greening in the northern part of Shandong Province and Lanzhou in Gansu Province.
I have been to these places and seen them.
The failure of the Green Deal is also a distant cause of the greater-than-expected damage caused to various parts of China by the torrential rains of 2020.
On the other hand, the West has gone too far.
As a result of overprotection rather than protecting the natural environment, we can no longer even care for our forests.
Japan’s forestry industry has fallen into disrepair, leaving national forest areas in shambles.
As a result, Japan’s forestry industry has fallen into disuse, and the national forest zone is in ruin.
