Pulitzer and the Lineage of Fake News: U.S. Journalism, Nanking, Toyota-Bashing, and Anti-Trump Reporting

Published on July 15, 2019.
This chapter records the author’s criticism of Pulitzer, American yellow journalism, reporting on the Nanking Incident, Toyota-bashing, anti-Trump reporting, and the posture of NHK and the Asahi Shimbun.
It discusses what the author sees as the problems of American journalism from the prewar and wartime periods to the present, and the structure of Japanese media attacks on the Abe administration.

Pulitzer was the proprietor of a yellow paper that churned out fake news, and as atonement for that sin, he also founded a school of journalism at Columbia University.
What the High Court ruling in the previous chapter makes clear is how left-wing activist elements tell lies.
…Needless to say, Kiyomi Tsujimoto and left-wing activists throughout the world have told exactly the same kinds of lies….
The Nanking Massacre was a fabrication created by a single American newspaper reporter… genuine scholars and journalists have made clear that the schemes of the United States and Chiang Kai-shek were involved.
Masayuki Takayama taught us that Pulitzer, who founded the Pulitzer Prize, was the proprietor of a yellow paper that churned out fake news, and that as atonement for that sin, he also founded a school of journalism at Columbia University.
In other words, American reporting before and during the war was reporting of that level.
That tradition still lives on in the United States today, as seen in the unbelievable reporting of the recent Toyota-bashing… a parade of lying human beings.
The manner in which notorious anti-Japanese activists, whom it would not be an exaggeration to call Korean spies, such as Mindy Kotler, attacked Toyota through fabrications.
What makes NHK the lowest kind of news organization, even though it is supposed to be an organization of journalists, is the manner in which, in the recent anti-Trump reporting by the New York Times and others against the Supreme Court justice appointed by Trump, and in the media that ceaselessly repeat anti-Trump reporting, it attacked Trump without even verifying the truth or falsehood of the accusations made by women like Mindy Kotler who appeared in those media.
Of course, for them, denigrating Trump is synonymous with denigrating Prime Minister Abe and disparaging Prime Minister Abe’s achievements.
As a result of Abenomics, Japan achieved the place where Japan ought to be in politics, economics, and diplomacy—that is, Japan’s revival—and this is an obvious fact recognized by the whole world.
Only the Asahi Shimbun and the like, NHK, China, and the Korean Peninsula do not want to recognize it, and in any case are watching eagerly for every opportunity to attack the Abe administration.
When one thinks that such an abnormal spectacle continued to dominate Japan completely until August four years ago, anyone should feel a chill.
