The author criticizes TV Tokyo’s WBS for giving insufficient attention to Human Rights Watch’s criticism of China while emphasizing the organization’s criticism of Japan’s judicial system in connection with the Ghosn case.
Citing a Yomiuri Shimbun article, he focuses on China’s repression of the Uyghurs, its refusal to allow Kenneth Roth into Hong Kong, its attempt to export censorship globally, and the passive attitude of the United Nations.

At the press conference, Mr. Roth pointed out that China’s repression of the Uyghur ethnic minority was “the most severe in several decades,” and warned that “China is trying to spread censorship throughout the world.”
Recently, I have been watching TV Tokyo’s nightly news program WBS.
It is a good program, but last night’s report concerning human rights was unacceptable.
The following is from today’s Yomiuri Shimbun, which reported this matter, but last night TV Tokyo hardly reported this at all.
Instead, regarding Ghosn, it gave major coverage only to the fact that this organization had criticized Japan’s judiciary.
It goes without saying that I felt anger toward this organization on that point, but I will write about that matter at a later date.
The emphasis in the text, apart from the headline, is mine.
“China: A Threat to Human Rights,” Says International Organization
New York, Makoto Murayama — Kenneth Roth, executive director of the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch, headquartered in New York, held a press conference at United Nations headquarters in New York on the 14th, in conjunction with the publication of its annual report on the state of human rights around the world, and harshly condemned China as “a global threat to human rights.”
Mr. Roth had initially planned to hold the press conference in Hong Kong, but China had refused him entry into Hong Kong.
At the press conference, Mr. Roth pointed out that China’s repression of the Uyghur ethnic minority was “the most severe in several decades,” and warned that “China is trying to spread censorship throughout the world.”
He also said of United Nations Secretary-General Guterres that “when the oppressor is a powerful country, his response is passive,” and appealed that “the international community must unite to confront China’s assault on human rights.”
