Los Angeles, Yonhap News — Among the new members announced on the 29th(local time)by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hosts the U.S. Academy Awards, were Korean film directors Park Chan-wook, Lee Chang-dong, and Kim So-yong, as well as actor Lee Byung-hun.
Director Park is known for Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Thirst, and other works, while Director Lee has made Peppermint Candy, Oasis, Secret Sunshine, Poetry, and other films.
Both directors have received awards at major international film festivals and have been recognized for the quality of their works and their directing ability.
Director Kim has also frequently had works invited to overseas film festivals, and Lee Byung-hun has advanced into Hollywood and is actively working there.
Members of the Academy have the right to vote for the Academy Awards.
Last year, film directors Im Kwon-taek and Bong Joon-ho, and actors Choi Min-sik and Song Kang-ho, among others, were selected as members.
Of the 683 new members this year(2016), minority groups, including Koreans, accounted for 41 percent.
*The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is also something like the United Nations, and from now on it will probably be increasingly dominated by South Korea and China, countries of bottomless evil and plausible lies.
Japan needs to pay attention to anti-Japanese propaganda by South Korea and China directed at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, just as it does toward United Nations-related organizations.
After all, the United States is a country whose national character is broad-brush, in both good and bad senses.*
