Japan’s Major Media Never Reported Even These Simple Facts
This essay exposes how Japan’s mainstream media systematically ignored clear evidence of Chinese influence operations surrounding Okinawa’s anti-base movement.
By examining revelations from Shukan Bunshun, it reveals how propaganda, political networks, and media silence converge—leaving both the Japanese public and the global media dangerously uninformed.
Japan’s Major Media Never Reported Even These Simple Facts
2017-02-07
In other words, Japan’s major media outlets have never reported even such simple facts.
The time has come for the Japanese people and people all over the world to understand what it truly means to report facts and to report truth, as the following article clearly demonstrates.
The following commentary is mine.
In a special feature titled “Okinawa’s Taboo,” Shukan Bunshun (April 23 issue) exposed the underground connections linking Governor Onaga, Attorney Saruta, former Prime Minister Hatoyama, and China.
Attorney Saruta previously served as Secretary-General of the “Constitutional Pilgrimage Association,” headed by Takako Doi.
According to the article, she is also the Secretary-General of the “New Diplomacy Initiative,” an organization that promotes anti-base activism while strengthening ties with China, and she has been advancing anti-base movements in tandem with Governor Onaga.
The U.S. visits by anti-base Mayor Inamine and the establishment of the Okinawa Prefecture’s Washington office were arranged by Attorney Saruta.
That same Attorney Saruta reportedly maintains frequent contact with ministers and counselors at the Chinese Embassy, has visited China, and has held discussions with senior officials of the Chinese Communist Party’s International Department.
Why China would engage with Attorney Saruta, a key figure in the anti-base movement, is something even a layperson can understand.
Considering China’s symbolic actions aimed at expanding into the Pacific—such as maritime base construction and the Senkaku Islands issue—it is abundantly clear that Okinawa is merely an Othello piece for China.
On May 8, 2013, People’s Daily published an article by a Chinese Academy of Sciences researcher stating that “the sovereignty of Okinawa Prefecture needs to be reconsidered.”
Shortly thereafter, on May 15, the “Comprehensive Association for Ryukyuan Independence Studies” was established under the initiative of Professor Matsushima of Ryukyu International University in Okinawa.
This association is not one that debates whether Ryukyuan independence is possible, but rather one that assumes independence as its premise.
Without delay, on May 16, Huanqiu, a website affiliated with People’s Daily, published an article expressing support for the Comprehensive Association for Ryukyuan Independence Studies.
Through this article, the Japanese people and people around the world are learning these facts for the first time.
They are also encountering for the first time the names and organizations involved, such as Sayo Saruta, Professor Matsushima of Ryukyu International University, and the Comprehensive Association for Ryukyuan Independence Studies.
In short, Japan’s major media outlets have never reported even these simple facts.
There is no explanation other than that the tentacles of Chinese propaganda operations have reached them as well.
Since the world’s major media outlets have relied on the Asahi Shimbun as their source of information on Japan, they must be completely unaware of the facts outlined above.
However, it would also be entirely unfounded to believe that China has not engaged in propaganda operations targeting those global media outlets.
Especially when one considers that the very lifeline of Communist one-party dictators—and the Communist Party itself—lies in their propaganda strategy.
