A Sudden Turn at Tenryū-ji: From a Bus Door to a Wagtail

Arriving at Tenryū-ji, a bus bound for Daikaku-ji opened its doors right before us. A spontaneous change of plans led to Ōsawa Pond—where, instead of a kingfisher, a lone Japanese wagtail appeared on a cold winter day.

As I was thinking about such things and arrived in front of Tenryū-ji, right before my eyes a bus bound for Daikaku-ji opened its doors.

In an instant, I changed my plans and jumped on, heading for Ōsawa Pond.

In my heart, I hoped it would be a blessing if I could meet a kingfisher, but there was not the slightest sign of one.

What appeared before our eyes instead was the Japanese wagtail shown below.

It was a cold day yesterday, and it greeted us looking very much as if it were cold.
