The Comedy at Ōsawa Pond: When the Carp Steals the Show

Ducks rush in, coots follow, quarrels break out—and finally, the carp appear. Friends burst into laughter at the photograph, for the true comedian of the pond is unmistakably the carp.

When they notice us, the ducks are the first to come toward us.
Next comes the Eurasian coot I introduced yesterday.
The ducks invariably start fighting, as if to say, “You stay over there.”

Then, at last, the carp slowly make their appearance.

Everyone among my friends who sees this photograph bursts out laughing.

This carp is truly the greatest comedian of all.
