Who Is Dividing the Government and the People? — Testimony from Okinawa —
Firsthand testimony from Okinawa exposes how Japanese media have divided the government and the people through manipulation, biased reporting, and long-standing practices exemplified by Asahi Shimbun.
The government and the people are being divided by the mass media.

What follows is a continuation of the previous chapter.
I want to see the abductees return home
Ganaha
The media report that “all of Okinawa is anti-base,” but even in Nago City where I live, many people show understanding toward the U.S. military bases.
As proof, nine of Okinawa Prefecture’s eleven cities have conservative mayors.
Today I met Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for the first time, and yet such a kind-looking and handsome prime minister always appears with a frightening expression in Okinawan newspapers.
We feel that impressions are being manipulated.
Abe … (wry smile).
Ganaha
The government and the people are being divided by the mass media.
As already noted, Ms. Ganaha is the woman who delivered a rebuttal speech at UNESCO when Onaga, in a manner utterly unbecoming of a prefectural governor and deeply problematic in its process, gave a speech there that demeaned and attacked Japan exactly in line with Chinese propaganda.
Compared with the men—mostly graduates of the School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University—who never engaged in real business, were filled with a masochistic view of history or a façade of moralism, and who continued to earn money while disseminating traitorous discourse that diminished Japan, she alone has continued to restore the honor of that faculty.
Her observation above is entirely correct.
Among the subscribers of Asahi Shimbun, all those with sound minds must have already noticed this.
Recently, Asahi’s editorial writers have repeatedly used phrases such as “divisive politicians,” staging President Donald Trump as a foil to criticize the Abe administration—an utterly hopeless line of argument.
A recent Tensē Jingo column I saw was the same.
The maliciousness of the people working at Asahi Shimbun has reached its extreme.
That it has been Asahi Shimbun itself which has continued to divide the Japanese state and the Japanese people is a stark fact, evidenced by countless examples.
Only they are unable to see themselves.
In other words, until August four years ago, Japan had been ruled by such hopeless naked kings, a reality so shameful and regrettable that it is astonishing how many middle-aged and older people still fail to recognize it.*
I think we must do something to know each other’s true faces.
Please come and see the real Okinawa.
Abe
Thank you very much.
I also love Okinawa.
Regarding U.S. military bases, I have repeatedly stated that ensuring safety comes first, and the U.S. side is also making efforts.
I hope that understanding among the prefectural residents will deepen.
To be continued.
