The following continues from the previous chapter.
Although the Fang family was supposed to have controlled local media, they lost to Ms. Pak’s political maneuvering in the mayoral election, and it is said that six current city council members were supported by her.
With her passing, has the time finally come for the Fang family to move to control the city’s administration as well.
The Fang family’s eldest son, company president James Fang, like his mother, frequently visits China.
Since 1996 he has served as chairman of the San Francisco–Shanghai Sister City Committee and is also a long-standing member of the board of directors of BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system.
The California state government and the board of directors constitute the highest decision-making body for BART operations.
The state government, too, has been considerably tinged red, and at its core stand Ms. Fang and her three sons.
To be continued.
