The Perversion of Seeking Criminal Punishment for TEPCO.—Who Will Answer for the Damage Done to Japan and the Injury to the Honor and Credibility of the Japanese People?—

This passage is a forceful expression of the author’s anger and disgust toward those seeking criminal punishment for TEPCO executives over the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.
Rejecting as malicious and foolish the argument that a once-in-a-thousand-years tsunami should have been foreseeable, the author directs sharp criticism not only at that line of reasoning but also at the figures and ideological posture behind it.
The piece further presses readers to consider who should truly be held accountable in light of the enormous damage suffered by Japan and the injury done to the honor and credibility of the Japanese people.

When one thinks of the enormous damage suffered by Japan, and of the honor and credibility of the Japanese people that were impaired…if Jiro Yamaguchi, who receives as much as 600 million yen in tax money every year through Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, were a true patriot, he would say, “I’d cut them down.”

While eating dinner, I was watching NHK’s 7 p.m. news…。
What first astonished me was that there are people demanding criminal punishment for TEPCO.
Their argument, that a once-in-a-thousand-years tsunami could have been foreseen, and that on that basis TEPCO’s management should be prosecuted, is so malicious that I am truly left speechless in my disgust.
Appearing as counsel for the plaintiffs, no doubt having egged them on, was that Yūichi Kaidō…the man said to be the common-law partner of Mizuho Fukushima.

I see.
Yes, this is the sort of thing that such a man might well do.
The very manner in which such a person presents himself as a lawyer.
What can be said is that, in China or on the Korean Peninsula, the countries on which they base themselves, such people would without question have been detained, arrested, and subjected to grave punishment, including the death penalty.
That fact reveals their foolishness better than anything else.
Just seeing the face of the man mentioned above made my dinner taste worse.
When one thinks of the enormous damage suffered by Japan, and of the honor and credibility of the Japanese people that were impaired because of such men…if Jiro Yamaguchi, who receives as much as 600 million yen in tax money every year through Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, were a true patriot, he would say, “I’d cut them down.”
