Whose Cover Fire Were Asahi and Yomiuri TV Providing? An Indictment of Japanese Media for Assisting the Fabricated “Nanjing Massacre” Narrative.

Published on April 21, 2019.
Based on a chapter originally published on October 10, 2015, this essay indicts the structure by which parts of the Japanese media echoed and reinforced the anti-Japan propaganda promoted by the Chinese Communist Party, especially the narrative of the “Nanjing Massacre.”
It discusses the historical background in which Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai did not invoke the Nanjing narrative, the anti-Japan propaganda campaign that intensified under Jiang Zemin, and the role played by figures such as Katsuichi Honda of the Asahi Shimbun, as well as questionable forces embedded within Yomiuri TV.
The essay sharply portrays how Japan’s domestic information space was distorted, and raises the strong suspicion that, at the very moment China was trying to exploit the “Nanjing Massacre” as a political propaganda weapon on the world stage, Japanese media were providing supporting fire.

Those who have embedded themselves within Yomiuri TV… people of whom it would be no exaggeration to say that they are agents of China or South Korea…
were providing supporting fire timed to coincide with China’s application to register this fabrication of the century as a world heritage item.

The following is from a chapter I published on October 10, 2015.
A friend said, with an unusually serious expression of anger, “I really can no longer forgive Asahi.”
When I asked what had happened, he said, “The Nanjing Massacre…”
So I looked at the Asahi Shimbun, but there was no article that seemed to correspond to it anywhere.
As I was wondering about it, he held out today’s Sankei Shimbun.
I immediately understood the reason for his anger.
Because this was the anti-Japan propaganda that Jiang Zemin had begun…
in order to divert the people’s eyes away from the Tiananmen Incident…
and in order to seize an enormous amount of ODA from Japan.
Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai knew that there had been no Nanjing Massacre.
That is why they never once said such a thing.
On the contrary, when the country was facing the danger of fiscal collapse as a result of the repeated great policy failures they themselves had committed, namely the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution…
they concluded a peace treaty between Japan and China.
Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai knew, as a complete fact that they had themselves lived through and experienced, that the war between Japan and China had been…
the greatest factor that enabled them to defeat the Nationalist forces in the civil war…
that is to say, Japan was…
for the Communist army they had founded…
which was overwhelmingly inferior to the Nationalist forces…
something like a great benefactor, because it had enabled them to prevail.
Even so, when receiving from Japan the greatest economic assistance in human history…
they declared to the world.
The war made the Japanese people, too, its victims.
Therefore, we renounce all claims for war reparations against Japan.
Yet when Jiang Zemin launched the anti-Japan propaganda…
that is, the cunning and persistent propaganda war directed at the world, unique to a one-party Communist dictatorship, against Japan…
the one that went right along with it…
was the Asahi Shimbun’s…
reporter Katsuichi Honda, whose true nature, it would be no exaggeration to say, was exactly that of a dissolute left-wing yakuza.
Not only readers of the Asahi Shimbun…
but many Japanese people…
were made to believe that he was some kind of great journalist, and turned him into a major bestselling author.
According to an article an informed source let me know about…
he apparently even owns three residences in Tokyo.
It was only natural that my close friend, who rarely ever shows such an expression, was angry.
At the same time, I also understood…
that the truly strange program which I had found on the internet just the other day and introduced…
a program said to be from Yomiuri TV…
a program that was in reality extremely suspicious…
had been produced…
as supporting fire for this matter…
by people who had embedded themselves within Yomiuri TV… people of whom it would be no exaggeration to say that they are agents of China or South Korea…
timed to coincide with China’s application to register this fabrication of the century as world heritage.
I will introduce today’s front page of the Sankei Shimbun in the next chapter.
