Kyoto Cherry Blossoms | April 2, 2022 | Daigo-ji, Chion-in, Maruyama Park, and Kiyomizu-dera | A Visual Poem of Full Bloom in the Ancient Capital
April 2, 2022.
On this day, I photographed the cherry blossoms of Kyoto in the ARW files of my α99.
The places I captured were Daigo-ji, Chion-in, Maruyama Park, and Kiyomizu-dera.
Kyoto, filled with the light of spring, was embraced by cherry blossoms in full bloom.
I recorded each of those fleeting moments in the ARW files of my α99.
For this work, I chose a musical structure that begins with Kohán István’s clarinet, passes through Mitsuko Uchida’s performance of the second movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, and returns once more to Kohán István’s clarinet.
That flow beautifully brings out the presence of Kyoto’s cherry blossoms, the shifting atmosphere of spring, and the quiet depth of the ancient capital.
Daigo-ji.
Chion-in.
Maruyama Park.
Kiyomizu-dera.
The atmosphere of spring in each of these places, together with the dignity of Kyoto as an ancient capital, is layered into this visual poem.
The cherry blossoms of Kyoto are not merely splendid.
In each fleeting moment dwell the passage of time and the memory of beauty in Japan itself.
That is why I wish to offer the cherry blossoms of Kyoto on this day to people around the world.
