Japanese Media Forgetting Responsibility for the Deterioration of Japan–South Korea Relations—Deference to South Korea and China, and the Yoke of GHQ’s WGIP

Published on July 19, 2019.
This essay criticizes Japanese media outlets such as NHK for reporting on the deterioration of Japan–South Korea relations as if they had forgotten the responsibility of the Moon administration.
It questions the handling of suspect names in crime reporting, the media’s deferential attitude toward South Korea and China, and the lingering influence of GHQ’s War Guilt Information Program on postwar Japan.

The media, including NHK, report that Japan–South Korea relations are deteriorating, and, like the Japan branch of South Korea’s state broadcaster, they report extensively on the situation in South Korea…as if they had completely forgotten that all responsibility lies with the Moon administration.
A well-read friend of mine said, “Strangely enough, this morning’s newspaper did not print the name of the perpetrator of such a terrible crime.”
In the Yomiuri…then perhaps the Sankei has printed it.
After all, they reported that the person was 41 years old based on the driver’s license.
Just as I thought.
The media, including NHK, report that Japan–South Korea relations are deteriorating, and, like the Japan branch of South Korea’s state broadcaster, they report extensively on the situation in South Korea…as if they had completely forgotten that all responsibility lies with the Moon administration.
So it is probably the case that, in order not to let Japan–South Korea relations deteriorate any further, they have begun their familiar deference to the Korean Peninsula.
The media, which continued day after day to attack the administration by reporting fabricated stories such as Moritomo and Kake, and by saying “deference,” against a rare prime minister of their own country who is accomplishing the finest work recognized throughout the world, begin to show deference when the other party is South Korea or China; such behavior is beneath even kindergarten children.
The fact that they do not understand at all that their sanctimonious pseudo-moralism is precisely the ideal target for dictators’ operations is also beneath even kindergarten children.
Even though last night’s news reported that the person’s age had been confirmed as 41 from the driver’s license, there is no way such a foolish story as “the name is unknown” could be true.
Needless to say, if the person were Japanese, it would be printed in every newspaper.
It is printed even in the case of foreigners other than Chinese and Koreans.
Even 74 years after the war, the Japanese media have not taken even one step out of GHQ’s WGIP, the War Guilt Information Program…that is, “one must not speak ill of Korea,” “one must not speak ill of China.”
In other words, even now, 74 years after the war, they remain under the yoke of GHQ’s WGIP, the War Guilt Information Program.
