Natural Energy Enthusiasm and Media Responsibility — A Warning About Japan’s Future

If it is natural, if it is environmentally friendly, if it prevents global warming—as fools always say.

The harm caused by expanding things that have no real significance while failing to expand things that should have been expanded has now become irreversible.
In other words, we have reached the point where we have no choice but to follow Professor Michio Morishima’s argument concerning the year 2050, as presented in his book Why Japan Will Decline.
One manifestation of this is the enthusiasm for “natural energy” that everyone seems to endorse on the television program I am watching right now.
They are enthusiastic about energy sources that account for merely 1% of the current electricity supply.
If it is natural, if it is environmentally friendly, if it prevents global warming—as fools always say.
If this does not work, then that will, they say, precariously shifting from one direction to another.
Since when has our country become a nation of kindergarten children moving together in a single direction like this?
Japan’s mass media bear responsibility for this, from the prewar period to the present.
The responsibility now lies with the media and the community of public commentators, which for more than twenty years have become a collection of foolish television outlets and accommodating pseudo-moralists.
In particular, I firmly believe that every cause of Japan’s decline lies in the conduct of the mass media, which for the past twenty years have pursued only the topic of the moment, the flower of the moment, with the mental age of a twelve-year-old.
Suppose you press ahead with such foolish actions.
Later, when that electricity becomes a burden because of its costs and other expenses, and you have to stop purchasing it, as is the case in Europe today.
How will you conduct yourselves, and what will you say?
Will you let it pass as though nothing had happened, just as you did during the “chorus of righteousness” some sixty years ago and in 1992?
But I say to you.
This time, you will not escape by pretending not to know, showing no remorse, and acting irresponsibly.
Why?
Because this time, Japan will sink, and the world will become extremely unstable.
