Dialogue and Japanese Sweets—My Three-Year Plan to Normalize Japan–China Relations Through Encounters with 30,000 Hardliners Toward Japan

2010-11-7
The aforementioned… Chinese journalist An Ti, who is well versed in mass movements in China… himself born in Nanjing and subjected to anti-Japanese education, says, “Until I gained access to various kinds of information on the Internet, I thought Japan was responsible for everything bad in the world”… I find this astonishing.
The astonishment that things were still like this in the 21st century…
If this were a story about a country that had been a source of concern for the world since the 20th century, that would be one thing, but this was the reality of a country that had, in numerical terms, become the world’s second-largest economy, a country in such a position that neither politics nor economics could be discussed without it…
Because this was reality, not a cartoon.
Therefore, as an urgent proposal, I am announcing the plan in the title.
The participants on the Japanese side will be 30,000 men and women, young and old, affiliated with the aforementioned mass media, and the participants on the Chinese side will be people who, like Mr. An Ti, have received anti-Japanese education,
30,000 hardliners toward Japan from all fields and strata of society who, unlike him… have not yet become aware of the truth.
Every day, with 30 people at a time, a three-and-a-half-hour discussion program will be held over a period of three years.
The six television networks, including NHK, will take turns doing it.
The cost of bringing them to Japan will be borne entirely by the six networks…
Considering these past 20 years, that is only natural, isn’t it…
There will be no shortage of sponsors…
Because it is harder to find companies that do not trade with China…
Because this will lead to genuine exchange between Japan and China, and genuine mutual understanding.
At these discussions, the first thing they will ask each other about is the concrete details of their daily lives.
Clothing, food, housing, hobbies, what they read and what music they listen to…
In any case, they will begin by asking each other about the reality of their lives…
Then they will deepen their conversation with each other.
This alone is my original idea, but beyond that, what makes me who I am… the idea that only I could conceive… is the question of why? Three and a half hours.
Because apparently the human brain can concentrate for 40 minutes…
Every 40 minutes, they will take a five-minute tea break… At these times, the most highly acclaimed, supremely delicious sweets of the moment
will be served to them with the words, “These are things the vast majority of Japanese people eat every day.”
Six times during the three and a half hours… acclaimed sweets will be served to 30 Chinese people… This alone will normalize Japan–China relations in three years.
Why?…
Today, Japanese sweets rank among the world’s finest in their refinement, their deliciousness, and their magnificence…
With each one they eat, and then each second one, the words and actions of those who hold anti-Japanese views… will soften, I declare.
After eating six exquisite varieties of sweets and returning home, their impression of Japan will be turned upside down, as different as heaven and earth.
This will continue every day for three years…
I am convinced that there can be no better exchange between Japan and China,
and the five newspaper companies and five television networks of the mass media will have no choice but to implement it immediately to atone for the “unforgivable sins” of these past 20 years.
I have no objection whatsoever to carrying this out on a scale of three million people.
