I am ashamed to stand in front of Ukrainians. I want to apologize,” “This is the end of Russia,” and “Why doesn’t anyone in the Kremlin stop Putin?
Negative comments such as “national disgrace” were also prominent on social media.

On April 24, protests against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine took place in Moscow and other parts of Russia. According to a Russian human rights monitoring group, at least 956 people were detained by the security authorities in Moscow on the night of March 24 (early morning Japan time on March 25), and more than 1,745 people were confirmed to be detained in 44 cities across the country.
A female office worker in her 20s who participated in the protest said, “I am ashamed to stand in front of Ukrainians. I want to apologize,” she said. “Economic sanctions, international isolation. I think this is the end for Russia.”
A male office worker in his 30s said, “Why doesn’t anyone in the Kremlin stop Putin? The war with Ukraine is not the will of the people of Russia,” he said angrily.
There was also a debate on the Russian social networking site (SNS). Few voices praise the invasion, such as “We did it! We should rescue people from the persecution (of the Ukrainian government) as soon as possible.” ”Putin should be punished as a war criminal,” and “Dictators always start wars in the name of ‘survival zone’ or ‘protection of their people. No words can justify war. This is a national disgrace!” and many other negative comments.
