Why Japan’s Leftist Media Always Says “Follow Other Countries”: Takayama Masayuki and the Lost Spirit of True Intellectuals

Japan’s major left-leaning media, especially Asahi Shimbun, constantly urges the nation to “follow other countries,” reflecting a degraded intellectual culture lacking confidence and national spirit. In contrast, journalist Takayama Masayuki embodies the proud legacy of Meiji Restoration thinkers, exposing global realities and the false morality of postwar elites. This chapter reflects on how the author came to recognize Takayama’s value and reveals the structural flaws of Japan’s media-driven intellectual discourse.

I wrote that Takayama Masayuki is a man of unyielding spirit.
A friend recommended his book to me.
習近平よ「反日」は朝日を見倣え by Takayama Masayuki, Shinchōsha, 1,400 yen.
The following is from pages 117 to 120.

Until last August, I could say that I did not truly understand Takayama Masayuki.
The reason is that I had, for far too long and foolishly, been a subscriber of the Asahi Shimbun.
Takayama had joined the Sankei Shimbun, served as a desk editor in the Social Affairs Department, and worked as bureau chief in Tehran and Los Angeles.

Now I realize this:
He is one of those who inherited the spirit and resolve of the pioneers who accomplished the Meiji Restoration — one of the greatest revolutions in world history.
Those are the people who built Japanese society.
In contrast, the people at Asahi and Mainichi are the complete opposite — utterly failed products.

That is why they endlessly say absurd things like “Japan must follow other countries.”
Their attitude itself proves the correctness of my previous arguments.

In other words, they are merely a group of people who once studied at a school below my alma mater, who happened to score slightly better than average.
And my realization and criticism of this fact were correct.

Because they lived under the supreme mandate of “catch up to and surpass” my alma mater, they are always trying to follow others or other countries.
They themselves prove that they are merely a group of second-rate people without the spirit of the first-rate.

Now, as we continue to witness their endless lies, fabrications, and superficial morality,
I can say that Takayama Masayuki is one of the world’s foremost scholars who truly understands the reality of the modern world.

In the next chapter, I will introduce a truly remarkable passage from his book, which I quoted yesterday.
