Japan’s Constitution Written by the American Army — Why Is Japan the Only Nation Forbidden to Amend Its Own Constitution?

Masayuki Takayama argues that Japan’s postwar constitution—including Article 9—was “written by the American Army,” a fact openly acknowledged by major foreign media. He criticizes Japan’s left-leaning claim that reinterpretation threatens democracy, and cites AP and The New York Times referring to the constitution as an “American-drafted” document. The article exposes how Japanese society has long been taught the false narrative that the constitution was crafted by Japanese officials.

Japan’s Constitution Written by the American Army

Below is the excellent argument I referred to yesterday.
America and China Arrogantly Lie, by Takayama Masayuki, ¥1,300, Tokuma Shoten, First Edition, February 28, 2015.
From pp. 222–229.
All boldface emphasis is mine.

America decided that only Japan must never revise its constitution.

“Changing the interpretation of Article 9—where Japan renounces armed forces and the right to belligerency—through a cabinet decision alone in order to allow the use of force is illegal without question and threatens Japanese democracy.”
“The interpretation of the constitution must not be revised by cabinet decision but through sufficient debate in the Diet with the consent of the people.”
This argument, indistinguishable from an Asahi Shimbun editorial, was written by Craig Martin, an associate professor at a rural university in Kansas, and published in The Japan Times.
I have no desire to hear lectures on democracy from citizens of a country that was using Black slaves until only yesterday.
Yet this arrogant legal scholar further asserts:

“Japan’s amendment procedure is not simply difficult; it is virtually impossible.”
Why should it be impossible only for Japan, when other nations revise their constitutions freely?

No Japanese newspaper writes about this most important point.
However, after the cabinet decision acknowledging collective self-defense, several foreign wires reported the clue quite openly.

For example, the AP wrote:
“Japan has taken a step away from the American-drafted Constitution that has restricted its military.”
It continued: the constitution “written under the direction of the United States” “commands Japan to permanently renounce war.”

The New York Times editorial titled “Abe’s Move Heightens Tensions in Asia” (dated July 2) likewise stated:
“Japan’s Constitution written by the American Army.”

Until now, Japan has maintained the view—and taught it in schools—that “the current constitution was written by Matsumoto Jōji and others under the guidance of GHQ, and was enacted with Diet approval,” in other words, that it was created by the Japanese themselves.

(To be continued.)
