Light and Stillness at Ōkōchi Sansō — An Autumn Apex in Resonance with Michelangeli’s Rachmaninoff No. 4
November 21, 2025.
Ōkōchi Sansō’s autumn radiance reached an unmistakable apex today.
The angle of the light, the structure of the garden, the profound stillness—
all revealed the aesthetic philosophy that Denjirō Ōkōchi devoted his life to perfecting.
The music that most closely mirrors this spiritual atmosphere is
Michelangeli’s extraordinary 1957 performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 4.
His sculpted precision, his restrained yet burning intensity,
and his unmatched command of silence and timing
reflect the very essence of this garden’s “luminous solitude.”
Today’s photographs stand as one of the milestones of my photographic journey.
I want to send this beauty—the beauty that lives silently within Ōkōchi Sansō—out into the world.
