The Most Dangerous Distraction — How Media Attacks Undermine Japan’s Defense at a Critical Moment

As China escalates its strategic actions around the Senkaku Islands, this essay condemns Japanese opposition parties and media for attacking the defense minister over trivial remarks, thereby diverting public attention from an imminent national security threat.

I was utterly astonished by the remarks made by Miyane, the host of the aforementioned wide-show program.
“If the minister in charge of Japan’s defense is wavering, that would be a problem,” he said.
Failing even to realize that they themselves are the ones committing an act more foolish than that of kindergarten children—attempting to erase from existence the minister responsible for national defense, which is the most crucial post given the current situation, and launching ferocious attacks by seizing on trivial words.
All the while, they wear the face of champions of justice and guardians of democracy as they make such comments.
China has positioned Xi Jinping as its “core.”
Since UN investigations reported the presence of resources such as oil, China has suddenly designated the Senkaku Islands as part of its core interests.
China is a one-party totalitarian state ruled by the Communist Party.
There are no Japanese-style opposition parties or media.
The military carries out Xi Jinping’s intentions without deviation.
The activities China is conducting around the Senkaku Islands are nothing like the pseudo-moralistic or pseudo-socialist uproar of Japan’s opposition parties and media.
They are cold, calculated actions aimed at exploiting the weaknesses of the Japan-US alliance and forcing the international community to recognize that China, too, has administrative rights over the Senkaku Islands.
This is the grave and present danger.
It is the personnel of the Japan Coast Guard and the Self-Defense Forces’ air units who are physically confronting and preventing these activities, fully aware that the People’s Liberation Army is acting with the intent to invade the Senkaku Islands.
Those lending the greatest assistance to concealing China’s intentions and diverting the Japanese people’s eyes away from them are the opposition parties and the media, led by the Asahi Shimbun.
To be continued.
