Japanese citizens who had long read the Asahi Shimbun, and those educated under occupation policies, were made to believe that Franklin D. Roosevelt was a great statesman.
I was, needless to say, one of them.
Recently, when I watched a biographical film about FDR starring Bill Murray on satellite television, I experienced a shock beyond words.
The impact was all the greater because I had long recognized FDR as a man confined to a wheelchair.
I felt the same shock as the film’s heroine.
That was because FDR was, in truth, an outrageous adulterer whose infidelity was beyond belief.
It was also FDR who drove Japan into war against the United States.
There were Soviet spies within the FDR administration.
And within GHQ, which inherited that administration, there were also Soviet spies, beginning with Herbert Norman.
In other words, the present situation—
in which numerous so-called scholars and cultural figures gleefully spread lies and fabrications to denigrate their own country to the world,
and in which communist one-party dictatorships such as China and the Korean Peninsula,
countries whose essence is bottomless evil and plausible lies,
are allowed to attack Japan with falsehoods and extort vast sums of money—
was created by FDR himself.

especially in such a sordid and insidious manner,
