The Abandoned Citizens of Wuhan—The Information War That Manufactured an “End to the Outbreak” for Xi Jinping’s Visit

Wuhan’s lockdown left many residents unable to reach hospitals or receive adequate treatment, while temporary facilities functioned more like detention centers than hospitals.
The Chinese Communist regime closed the facilities, reported zero new infections, and manufactured the appearance that the outbreak had ended in time for Xi Jinping’s visit to Wuhan.
Seki Hei and Kumiko Takeuchi discuss the concealment and propaganda behind this operation.

The Abandoned Citizens of Wuhan—The Information War That Manufactured an “End to the Outbreak” for Xi Jinping’s Visit
The Abandoned Citizens of Wuhan

As the government of Wuhan was governing the epicenter of the outbreak, one would think that it might at least have introduced some measures of its own.
What actually happened?
Seki
It did nothing more than tell hospitals to “do their best to provide treatment.”
It did not even supply them with masks or protective clothing.
It was only after the central government established a countermeasures headquarters on January 20 that medical teams were dispatched from regions outside Wuhan, the city was locked down, and the movement of its citizens was restricted.
Takeuchi
I am also concerned about the current situation inside Wuhan.
According to what I have heard, when people become ill and go to a hospital, they fear that, if they are diagnosed with the Wuhan virus, they will be isolated and effectively erased from society.
For that reason, many citizens apparently remain at home even when they develop cold-like symptoms.
Seki
According to the Chinese government’s announcement, approximately 3,800 people died from the virus in Wuhan.
However, more than 90 percent of the victims probably never went to a hospital and died in their own homes.
After Wuhan was locked down, all public transportation within the city was halted.
Even the use of privately owned cars was prohibited.
Hospitals are not always located nearby, and without the use of cars, elderly and sick people could scarcely reach them.
Takeuchi
Even if they managed to get there, the hospitals were full.
Seki
For that reason, more than ten large facilities in Wuhan, including gymnasiums, were converted into temporary hospitals capable of accommodating more than 10,000 people.
However, it was later discovered that no actual treatment was being provided.
People merely suspected of being infected were confined together with confirmed patients.
As a result, people who had not previously been infected also died there.
Takeuchi
They were no different from detention camps.
Seki
Xi Jinping visited Wuhan on March 10, but by the end of February, the Wuhan government had closed all the temporary hospitals.
Takeuchi
They made it appear as though the outbreak had ended.
Seki
Then what happened to the patients?
To put it plainly, their whereabouts are unknown.
Officially, they recovered and were discharged.
But that makes no sense.
Could every patient possibly recover by a deadline determined by the government?
Takeuchi
This too was part of an extraordinary information war.
They forcibly created the appearance that the outbreak had ended, preserved the regime’s dignity, and welcomed Xi Jinping to Wuhan.
Seki
In addition, they began claiming that the number of new infections was zero.
And every region began making the same claim at once.
Takeuchi
That is impossible(笑)。
Seki
When patients came to hospitals with fevers and coughs, they were not diagnosed with the Wuhan virus.
Their medical records simply stated, “ordinary pneumonia.”
Takeuchi
But surely some facts eventually become impossible to conceal.
Seki
Their present method is to report new infections only after the number reaches a certain level.
Perhaps dissatisfied with this method, Li Keqiang stated at a meeting of the countermeasures headquarters on March 23, “Most regions of China have continued to report zero infections for several days. However, infection statistics must be released promptly and must be truthful and accurate. There must never be concealment or failures to report cases merely for the purpose of announcing zero infections.”
The People’s Daily, however, completely ignored Premier Li’s statement.
The State Council published it on its website, and it therefore became public.
This can be described as a failure on the part of the Xi Jinping administration.
To be continued.
