The Day the Wuhan Lab Leak Theory Gained Credibility: The Information on COVID-19’s Origin Suppressed by the Chinese Government

This article examines reports by The Washington Post, the Daily Mail, Fox News, and others on safety concerns at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, warning cables from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, NIH-linked research funding, and the Chinese government’s suppression of information about the origin of COVID-19. It questions the seafood market origin theory and highlights China’s failure to provide early patient samples, the closure of a Shanghai laboratory, and the disappearance of doctors and journalists who reported on the outbreak.

The Chinese government has completely sealed off information concerning the source of the novel coronavirus infection,
and has still not provided American experts with novel coronavirus samples taken from early patients.
The following is from an article I found on the internet a short while ago.

A laboratory with insufficient safety operations.
It was the April 14 online edition of The Washington Post that reported on the safety operation problems at the Wuhan laboratory.
Two years earlier, diplomats from the American Embassy in Beijing had visited the Wuhan laboratory several times.
During those visits, the diplomats became aware that there were problems with the safety of the laboratory,
and reportedly sent two cables to the U.S. government warning that “the safety of a laboratory conducting dangerous research on bat coronaviruses was insufficient.”
The cable dated January 19, 2018 pointed out safety operation problems,
stating that “this laboratory has a serious shortage of trained technicians and investigators necessary for the safe operation of highly contained laboratories.”
Furthermore, the cable pointed out that bat-derived coronaviruses could infect humans, cause disease,
and that a future outbreak caused by a coronavirus could occur.
“Most importantly, the researchers showed that SARS-like coronaviruses bind to the human receptor known as ACE2.
This suggests that bat-derived SARS-like coronaviruses can infect humans and cause SARS-like disease.
From the standpoint of public health, it is necessary to continue research into the SARS-like coronaviruses carried by bats,
as well as research on the animal-human interface that is important for preventing future coronavirus outbreaks.”
Senior national security officials in the Trump administration had considered the possibility that the novel coronavirus had leaked from the Wuhan laboratory,
as well as the possibility that the novel coronavirus was an artificially developed biological weapon.
However, the latter possibility was denied after genome analysis showed that it had not been artificially created.
Then, beginning two months earlier, this cable from two years ago began circulating within the Trump administration,
and discussion began over the possibility that the novel coronavirus had leaked from the Wuhan laboratory,
whose safety operations had been pointed out as problematic.
The U.S. government provided research funding.
Then how did the novel coronavirus leak out?
The British newspaper Daily Mail reported that a scientist at the Wuhan laboratory who was exposed to blood containing the novel coronavirus may have become patient zero,
and that this scientist may have spread the infection into the local community.
The cable also appealed for the U.S. government to support the Wuhan laboratory, because research on bat coronaviruses was both important and dangerous.
In fact, British and American media have pointed out that the U.S. government was providing research funds to the laboratory.
According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail,
the United States had provided 3.7 million dollars in funding for coronavirus research at the Wuhan laboratory.
The Wuhan laboratory was using bats living in caves in Yunnan Province, more than 1,000 miles away from the laboratory, for coronavirus experiments.
According to the paper, those experiments used 3.7 million dollars in research funding provided by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, NIH.
Fox News also reported that the Wuhan laboratory had received research funding worth 7.1 million dollars from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
Of that amount, 3.7 million dollars was research funding for the aforementioned bat coronavirus research,
and 3.4 million dollars was research funding for experiments involving the injection of viruses into the brains of mice.
Incidentally, it seems that through coronavirus research,
China wanted to show that it was working on the discovery of coronaviruses at the same level as, or even beyond, the United States.
Warnings had been issued about a novel coronavirus outbreak.
In addition, Zhengli Shi, the senior researcher at the Wuhan laboratory who has the nickname “Bat Woman,”
reportedly warned in a paper published one year earlier that an outbreak of SARS-like coronaviruses derived from bats would occur in China, as follows:
“It is highly likely that future outbreaks of coronaviruses similar to SARS or MERS will originate from bats.
And the likelihood is increasing that such an outbreak will occur in China.”
American deaths are China’s responsibility.
Regarding the possibility that the novel coronavirus leaked out during coronavirus research conducted with U.S. government funding and then spread throughout the world,
American lawmakers could not contain their anger.
“The National Institutes of Health provided 3.7 million dollars in research funding to the Wuhan laboratory,
and the laboratory used that money to recruit coronavirus researchers.
After that, a novel coronavirus outbreak occurred in Wuhan.
I am disgusted to learn that the American government funded dangerous and cruel animal experiments at the Wuhan laboratory for years,
and that this may have caused the global spread of the novel coronavirus.”
These are the words of Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz.
“There is no doubt that Americans are dying because of the Chinese Communist Party government.
By covering up the origin of the novel coronavirus, they are putting American lives at risk.
The National Institutes of Health must immediately stop using American taxpayers’ money for dangerous research in China.”
These are the words of Republican Senator Martha McSally.
By the way, the United States was not the only country funding the Wuhan laboratory.
Canada, too, most recently last month, had funded this laboratory, according to Canada’s Rebel News.
A Canadian research institution reportedly announced in early March that it would provide the laboratory with research and development funds to fight the novel coronavirus.
The seafood market origin theory is strange.
The theory that the virus originated from the Wuhan laboratory has begun to gain credibility.
However, both the Wuhan laboratory and the Chinese government insist that the outbreak is unrelated to the laboratory,
and many experts also deny any connection.
On the other hand, there are also indications that the Chinese government’s claim that the novel coronavirus originated in Wuhan’s seafood market is strange.
According to a paper by Chinese researchers published in The Lancet,
the first confirmed patient on December 1 of the previous year, and more than one-third of the first cluster of infected people, had no connection to the seafood market.
Furthermore, bats were not being sold at the market.
In addition, the Chinese government has completely sealed off information concerning the source of the novel coronavirus infection,
and has still not provided American experts with novel coronavirus samples taken from early patients.
It is also said that the Shanghai laboratory that published the genome of the novel coronavirus on January 11 was soon closed,
and that doctors and journalists who reported the spread of the infection in its early stage have disappeared.
Did the novel coronavirus come from the Wuhan laboratory?
Some say it will be difficult for the Trump administration to find proof that the novel coronavirus leaked from this laboratory,
but future developments will be closely watched.
