That is the photography of Izis. The sacred recognize the sacred, and heroes recognize heroes.
Today, I went to the Izis photography exhibition that I had decided to visit even before it opened.
I had decided to go on an overcast or rainy day, but the visit had kept being postponed until today.
Last night, wondering whether the closing date might perhaps be approaching, I searched and discovered that it would end tomorrow.
Determined to go today no matter what, I headed for Kyoto.
I had some slight concern: “What shall I do if his photographs are the kind in which I have absolutely no interest—photographs that rely upon camera techniques or appear to make full use of camera techniques?” But it was an entirely groundless fear.
Far from that, his photographs were exactly the same as mine.
The value of Izis’s photography lies in the depth of Izis’s contemplation.
Put simply, Izis, like me, is engaged in Shobogenzo with his subjects.
He is engaged in Shobogenzo with every living being and every existing thing.
That is the photography of Izis. The sacred recognize the sacred, and heroes recognize heroes.
…To be continued.
