A “Once-in-a-Thousand-Year” Tsunami and TEPCO’s Criminal Responsibility — Examining Foreseeability in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster

The sheer viciousness of their claim that the once-in-a-thousand-year tsunami could have been predicted, and of their attempt to hold TEPCO’s executives criminally responsible, leaves me truly speechless.

I was watching NHK’s seven o’clock news while eating dinner…
The first thing that astonished me was that there were people seeking criminal punishment for TEPCO.
The sheer viciousness of their claim that the once-in-a-thousand-year tsunami could have been predicted, and of their attempt to hold TEPCO’s executives criminally responsible, leaves me truly speechless.
The man who appeared as counsel for the plaintiffs—although he was probably the one who incited them—was none other than Yuichi Kaido, who is said to be Mizuho Fukushima’s common-law partner.
Indeed, this man would be capable of such a thing.
The spectacle of a person like this presenting himself as a lawyer.
What can be said is that, in China or on the Korean Peninsula—the countries upon which their thinking is based—these people would undoubtedly be detained and arrested and subjected to severe punishment, including the death penalty.
That fact reveals their foolishness more clearly than anything else.
The mere sight of the face of the man named above spoiled my dinner.
When I think of the enormous damage that Japan suffered because of men like these, and of the honor and credibility lost by the Japanese people…if Jirō Yamaguchi, who receives as much as six hundred million yen in taxpayers’ money every year through KAKENHI, were a true patriot, he would “cut them down.”
