Questioning NHK and TV Tokyo’s Reporting on China — The Attitudes Revealed in a Belt and Road Special and the LDP Leadership Election

Speaking of NHK announcers, programs in which Chiaki Kamakura appears are strangely odd.
The first time I thought, “What?” about this woman was during the live broadcast from the Shanghai Expo.
As you know, I have decided that, as long as China and South Korea continue their anti-Japanese education, I will never visit either country.
Kamakura was completely at ease, as though the place were her own home.
She must have been the principal announcer for the broadcast.
After that, she appeared almost as a co-host on the program that I described several times as henohenomoheji and whose reporting I criticized.
It was Close-up Gendai, which Takeda presided over.
They frequently brought on Daisuke Tsuda and Kōichi Nakano almost as though they were the principal commentators.
The subsequent conduct of Daisuke Tsuda and Kōichi Nakano proves just how terrible the program truly was.
I cannot understand the thinking that led them to feature people like these virtually as principal commentators on one of the flagship news programs of what is, in practical terms, a state-run broadcaster.
The other night, on a special program, Kamakura finally went so far as to praise China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
It is an unmistakable fact that China has been actively expanding into Africa with evil ambitions.
They had a young African woman who loves fashion speak about her respect and gratitude for China.
The content suggested that she owed her present success to the Chinese-made ByteDance or TikTok app she uses—an app that is also clearly a spying application.
In other words, the program praised China for contributing to Africa.
Apart from Japanese citizens who have been ensnared by China, could anyone watch this without feeling horrified?
They went to the elaborate length of having her appear live by video telephone at high call charges and broadcasting the two women talking together.
Her attitude toward China, and that of Yamakawa, a Nihon Keizai Shimbun employee who serves in a commentator-like role on TV Tokyo, is far from normal.
The Japanese people should pay close attention to their words and conduct.
Speaking of TV Tokyo, Akiko Sasaki’s extraordinary behavior when she welcomed Diet member Sanae Takaichi during the Liberal Democratic Party leadership election campaign was also conspicuous.
The difference between her behavior on that occasion and when she welcomed Tarō Kōno was such that TV Tokyo could no longer be described as an impartial news organization.
At that time, Sasaki and a man said to be the Nihon Keizai Shimbun’s chief editorial writer abruptly attacked Takaichi by saying that there were too few female Diet members.
The United Nations released a laughable report suggesting that women’s human rights were being disregarded in Japan.
Linking their questioning to Japan’s extremely low ranking, they persistently directed their criticism at candidate Takaichi.
They have never once criticized China with the same persistence over the case of the Chinese tennis player.
The extraordinarily, abnormally different ways in which Sasaki treated Takaichi and Tarō Kōno during the Liberal Democratic Party leadership election.
Looking back now, the reason is simple to understand.
In other words, it was a response dictated by China’s wishes, or at least aligned with China’s wishes.
TV Tokyo is effectively controlled by a company that calls itself the Nihon Keizai Shimbun and is supposed to be a collective of journalists.
This was the conduct of its flagship news program.
It is not a pleasant matter.
