All I Wanted Was to Listen to T. Rex—An Evening Lost in “Messenger from the Galaxy” and Japanese Titles

2010-11-7
Toward evening, I suddenly felt like listening to T-rex.…
There are 36 songs scattered throughout my I-tunes.
As I listened… I thought I would use the Internet to put together lyric sheets for every song, in playback order, and that was my undoing…
Baseball fans are probably watching the Japan Series.
Most of the songs are listed with album titles and song titles only in Japanese…
First, the title mentioned in the heading, “Messenger from the Galaxy”… Looking through all of T-Rex’s albums, I could find nothing resembling it…
When I tried typing it in Japanese, it came up… The album title was so small I could not even read it…
When I enlarged it to 400%… Give me a break,
How does “Futuristic Dragon” become “Messenger from the Galaxy”?
Next, the individual songs sent me running in circles, too…
“Jupiter Liar” becomes “The Beautiful Hypocrite, His Name Is Jupiter”!
“My Little Baby” is “The Adorable Madman,” and “All Alone” is “A Chrome-Colored Serenade”!
“Ride My Wheels” is “A Drive of Love with Wonderful You”!
“Universe” is “The Cosmic Ball”… Though this one is somewhat more understandable.
Well, I have only just finished all 36 songs.
Around 1976… Some of my readers may not yet have been born…
Back then, this was how they went about giving foreign films their Japanese titles.
But goodness, what a runaround that gave me (laughs).
