Yakushiji East Pagoda and Toshodaiji 2021|The Irreplaceable Silence of Nara|Bach Cello Suite No. 1
On April 30, 2021, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, I photographed the restored East Pagoda of Yakushiji Temple and Toshodaiji Temple. With almost no tourists in Nara, I preserved the temples and the moss garden near the memorial tomb of Ganjin Wajo as an irreplaceable photo collection of silence. The music is Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, performed by Mischa Maisky, from a recording available on YouTube.
April 30, 2021.
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the restoration work on the East Pagoda of Yakushiji Temple had been completed.
Among all the places and buildings I visited in Nara and Kyoto during my high school excursion, the East Pagoda of Yakushiji and Toshodaiji Temple remained deeply in my heart.
It is no exaggeration to say that this is a photo collection that can never be taken again.
There were almost no tourists.
It was the last opportunity to photograph these places without having to be conscious of them at all.
The East Pagoda of Yakushiji.
Toshodaiji.
Kaizan Gobyō, located in a quiet, secluded place in the northeastern part of the Toshodaiji Temple grounds.
It is the tomb of Ganjin Wajo.
Along the approach to the mausoleum, a magnificent moss garden spread out in silence.
This is a visual work created to preserve the silence of Nara for future generations.
