The Essence of Plastic Pollution Is the Lack of Public Spirit — Unease over Davos, NHK, and Chinese Propaganda
Published on January 25, 2020. Through a news program reporting on the Davos conference, this article criticizes the international trend of one-sidedly demonizing PET bottles and plastic products, as well as NHK’s attitude in reporting it. It contrasts Suntory’s advanced recycling technology, Japan’s strict waste separation and river purification, and marine pollution caused by the lack of public spirit in China, South Korea, and developing countries, while discussing the problem of Chinese propaganda behind the discourse.

Come on, Indonesia too is a notorious country for air pollution, is it not?
Moreover, it is not even a country that has the technology to build a Suntory factory that can only make one marvel.
Last night, while watching a news program reporting on the Davos conference, there was something that astonished me.
The president of Suntory appeared.
Suntory has shifted its management toward the complete recycling of PET bottles and is building a wonderful factory.
Everyone watching must surely have been impressed.
He expressed concern that this Davos conference was rapidly moving in a one-sided direction lacking scientific and academic backing.
The claim that PET bottles should be stopped and replaced with glass lacks even the basic knowledge that, in fact, producing glass generates a large amount of CO2.
He was grumbling about this at a standing buffet party to the chairman of Rakuten, who had come to the venue.
Then he appeared in a panel discussion.
In addition to former Vice President Gore, a young woman who represented an Indonesian NGO appeared.
Come on, Indonesia too is a notorious country for air pollution, is it not?
Moreover, it is not even a country that has the technology to build a Suntory factory that can only make one marvel.
I was truly disgusted by the fact that today’s world is covered in pseudo-moralism and narrow political correctness, and by the attitude of Watch 9, the flagship program of NHK, which is in substance Japan’s state broadcaster, reporting such a state of affairs with evident delight.
At that moment, I realized the following fact.
PET bottles and plastic products are being made targets because they are said to be the cause of marine pollution.
But who is causing marine pollution with them?
First is China, second is South Korea, and from third place downward, developing countries and poor nations such as Indonesia will certainly appear.
Because they have no such thing as public spirit, they throw them into the sea and rivers without hesitation.
For quite some time, those kinds of garbage washing up on Japanese beaches have come from South Korea.
In recent years, perhaps they have also been washing up from China.
Naturally, Japanese people, and all decent foreigners living in Japan, should know that throughout Japan, garbage collection is carried out with almost abnormal levels of separation and sorting.
Some years ago, I went to Shinsaibashi for the first time in a long while and was surprised.
This was because the town had completely changed, and on a weekday afternoon, so many Chinese tourists were coming and going that it looked almost like a Chinese town.
In the past, Dotonbori was a dirty river.
Around the time Hashimoto became governor of Osaka Prefecture and mayor of Osaka City, a Dotonbori purification project began, using Japanese biotechnology such as bacteria.
By the time Hashimoto became mayor, Dotonbori had become so clean that it was unrecognizable.
So much so that Hashimoto proposed a plan to create a swimming area in Dotonbori.
In parallel with this, development of the riverbanks of Dotonbori began, and a splendid promenade was created.
Those who stood on the completed Ebisubashi Bridge must have felt, as I did, like Urashima Taro returning to a transformed world.
Osaka, especially the Dotonbori area, is extremely popular among foreign visitors to Japan.
The same can be said of the Nakanoshima district centered on Yodoyabashi.
The Dojima River and Tosabori have become clean, the riverbanks have been improved, and the district has become an even more beautiful town.
It was when I was looking at the river with those thoughts in mind.
A considerable number of PET bottles were floating and drifting along.
I immediately thought of it.
The harmful effects of the increase in foreign visitors to Japan, especially Chinese and South Koreans.
People of the world, you must know that pollution caused by plastic products is due to the lack of public spirit in countries represented by China.
Plastic products are, so to speak, tools of civilization.
Suntory is now building the finest and most wonderful factory for the complete recycling of PET bottles.
I also understood the disgusting nature of the one-sided and rapid discussions at the United Nations and the Davos conference.
And for some reason, China, which is the root cause of all of these things, is never named at all, while the attacks are directed exclusively at advanced countries, led by the United States and Japan.
Behind those attitudes is China.
Chinese propaganda, which prevents the arrows from being directed at China, is achieving splendid success.
The world must realize as soon as possible that the essence of the Chinese sphere is truly bottomless evil and plausible lies.
Once again, a new type of pneumonia has arisen from China.
Even though the cause lies in the indescribable filthiness of Chinese markets,
the Chinese authorities, who oppress the Uyghurs and Tibetans and even conduct ideological reeducation, declare that “we cannot go so far as to regulate eating habits,” and do not try to improve the sanitary conditions of the markets.
What are they doing instead?
They are building, through crash construction, a large hospital to isolate patients.
What a childish way of thinking.
But this is an expression of the fact that they do not regard people as people, and that anyone other than Communist Party executives is not human; that is their true feeling.
It is nothing other than the thinking of ancient people.
Ancient people made up only of their clan and followers have stolen technology produced by capitalism and democracy, and have finally constructed George Orwell’s surveillance society.
Because the people are ancient people, and because, as Lu Xun said, they are forever slaves, they accept this calmly and obediently.
The time has long since come for the world to know that this is the true condition of the Chinese sphere.
