An Album Discovered Through Arcade Fire’s “Lenin”—The State of the World’s Music and the Will to Eradicate AIDS

2010-10-9
I opened iTunes thinking I would listen to Arcade Fire, and, to my surprise, there was a song of theirs about Lenin…
Looking closer, I found it on the album named in the title, released last spring.
When I looked it up on Wikipedia…
The ultimate album capturing the rock and pop scene of “today,” transcending record-label boundaries!
Featuring a collaboration between David Byrne of Talking Heads and Dirty Projectors, one of New York’s hottest bands of the moment, as well as a duet between Feist, the female artist whose song for an iPod commercial is still fresh in our memories, and Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, the album brings together a host of essential artists indispensable to any discussion of today’s rock and pop scene, transcending record-label boundaries—including Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire, Spoon, Dave Sitek, the brains behind TV on the Radio, one of Beggars’ leading acts, Cat Power, and the New Pornographers!!
All the artists are, of course, participating in this compilation without compensation.
**A portion of the proceeds from sales of this CD will be donated through the Red Hot Organization to efforts to eradicate AIDS in countries around the world.
Incidentally, I already have 90 percent of the participating artists on my iPod, but I promptly purchased the album for 1,800 yen.
To be able to hear, in a single listen, where the world’s music stands today, and contribute to the eradication of AIDS as well—they really do come through, after all.
