The False Moritomo Narrative Created by the Asahi Shimbun — Yoshishige Kagoike Exposes the Structure of Anti-Cabinet Reporting and the Campaign to Block Constitutional Revision
Through Yoshishige Kagoike’s testimony, this chapter examines the reporting and pursuit structure of the Asahi Shimbun, major media outlets, and opposition parties in the Moritomo affair. It addresses the Finance Ministry document alteration, Toshio Akagi’s suicide note, the opposition to the Public Prosecutors Office Act revision, and suspicions surrounding mass Twitter campaigns, while questioning the recurring methods used in Moritomo, Kake, the Cherry Blossom Viewing Party, Abenomask, and the prosecutors law controversy.

However, the Asahi Shimbun created the story that “the Ministry of Finance lowered the price out of consideration for Prime Minister Abe,” and through selective reporting, it forcibly justified a false narrative.
The following is the continuation of the previous chapter.
Who is behind it?
There was no illegality in Moritomo Gakuen’s land transaction.
It was caused by the negligence of the Ministry of Finance, which had hidden the existence of the garbage buried underground.
There could have been no consideration for Prime Minister Abe.
However, the Asahi Shimbun created the story that “the Ministry of Finance lowered the price out of consideration for Prime Minister Abe,” and through selective reporting, it forcibly justified a false narrative.
Not only newspaper companies beginning with the Asahi Shimbun, but also television stations such as NHK formed a scrum and reported suspicions that did not exist.
Based on that reporting, opposition lawmakers pursued Prime Minister Abe day after day, and thus an absurd and terrifying movement to bring down the Cabinet unfolded.
Shukan Bunshun also joined the major media in stirring up the Moritomo issue.
It used people such as Fuyuki Aizawa, the former NHK reporter who wrote Abe Kantei vs. NHK, published by Bungeishunju, and Tatsuya Akazawa, who co-authored with my father National Policy Non-Investigation, also from Bungeishunju, and carried articles with the same tone as the Asahi Shimbun.
Has the weekly magazine that once kept its distance from the major media and exposed scandals involving politicians and celebrities lost the pride of magazine journalism?
In March of this year, Shukan Bunshun published the suicide note of Toshio Akagi, an employee of the Kinki Local Finance Bureau.
Based on that, the opposition parties created a “re-investigation team” in an attempt to reignite the Moritomo issue.
But at this stage, what exactly are they going to pursue?
There is no doubt that the worst party was the Ministry of Finance, which engaged in document alteration.
However, did the media, which reported on the Moritomo issue day after day and stirred up the public, bear no responsibility?
I think there was also an aspect in which the reporting placed pressure on the Ministry of Finance.
If they repeat false reporting without learning anything, another suicide may occur.
The purpose is to crush constitutional revision.
However, because of my father’s recent confession, the opposition parties and the media can no longer bring the Moritomo issue into politics.
If they pursue it carelessly, the names of those who deceived my father, such as Representative Kiyomi Tsujimoto, will come out, and it will backfire on them.
After my father released his video, the issue of extending prosecutors’ terms suddenly emerged as a new suspicion.
I cannot help suspecting that, because they could no longer attack over the Moritomo issue, they created yet another new topic to bring down the Cabinet.
In Japan’s parliamentary cabinet system, it is natural for the ruling party, which has received the confidence of the voters in an election, to organize the Cabinet and place people who can facilitate policy in various positions.
This is also obvious in corporate management, but for some reason, the opposition parties and the media cannot understand the common sense of ordinary society.
It is extremely frightening for bureaucrats and prosecutors who merely passed examinations to proceed with matters on their own in places where democratic control does not operate.
Checking their actions is the responsibility of the legislature, and it may be called the duty of politicians who are members of the Diet.
The media joyfully reported that the phrase “I protest against the revision of the Public Prosecutors Office Act” had been tweeted five million times on Twitter.
However, conservative verification exposed it as “Internet manipulation.”
By having the same people tweet repeatedly hundreds of times, they made the number appear large.
It is causing an uproar on the Internet that the person who set up the campaign was attorney Yuichi Kaido, the common-law husband of Representative Mizuho Fukushima.
He was also one of the people moving behind the scenes in the Moritomo issue, and I have actually met him.
Every time, the “usual members,” such as Representative Mizuho Fukushima and Representative Kiyomi Tsujimoto, fabricate suspicions, and the Asahi Shimbun stirs them up.
Then, based on the Asahi Shimbun’s articles, opposition lawmakers pursue the Abe administration.
Moritomo Gakuen, Kake Gakuen, the Cherry Blossom Viewing Party, Abenomask, and the revision of the Public Prosecutors Office Act.
All of these suspicions are created by the same method.
Then why do they want to bring down the Abe administration so badly?
Is it not in order to prevent constitutional revision?
According to the latest opinion poll, two-thirds of voters support adding an emergency clause to the Constitution.
Because it would be inconvenient for the debate on constitutional revision to gain momentum, they are trying to divert the public’s attention toward criticism of the administration.
If they dislike constitutional revision, all they need to do is cast opposing votes in a national referendum.
If they are dissatisfied with the Abe administration, all they need to do is not vote for the Liberal Democratic Party in an election.
Because they know that they cannot win if they fight head-on, they fabricate suspicions that do not exist and scheme Internet manipulation.
In other words, they are conducting a kind of “guerrilla warfare.”
There is no other word for it than cowardly.
