China’s “Debt Trap” and Africa’s Awakening: The True Nature of the Belt and Road Behind Medical Aid

The Sankei Shimbun reported growing distrust in African countries toward China’s medical aid amid the spread of the novel coronavirus. Under the banner of the Belt and Road Initiative, China has extended massive loans to Africa and expanded its influence, yet local doctors have expressed serious doubts about the quality of Chinese medical equipment and China’s “debt trap.” This essay examines the reality and danger of China’s domination of Africa.

China has quietly bought up Africa, and because of that, Africa has become unstable.
We have now realized this.

There is no need to argue that, in Japan today, the most decent newspaper not under the influence of Chinese operations is the Sankei Shimbun.
In other words, it is no exaggeration to say that, when it comes to China, the Sankei Shimbun is the only newspaper reporting the facts.
My readers know well that I am the only person in the world who has continued to point out to the world that the true nature of China and the Korean Peninsula is bottomless evil and plausible lies.
The following is from today’s Sankei Shimbun.
It is an article that proves that China is a country of “bottomless evil” and “plausible lies.”
Why have so-called intellectuals, politicians, and mass media figures, not only in Japan but throughout the world, been seduced by such a mass of evil as China?
That, too, is exactly what this column has repeatedly pointed out.

Coronavirus Aid, Too, as a “Debt Trap”
Doctors from Two African Countries Distrust China
Cairo — Takao Sato
Two doctors in Africa, where there are concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, responded to interviews by e-mail and other means and criticized China’s medical aid.
China, which sees Africa as an important base for its massive economic-zone initiative, the Belt and Road, is sending medical equipment and cooperating in efforts to contain infections, but there are said to be doubts about the accuracy and quality of the equipment.
Meanwhile, China appears not to have made any clear statement on concrete economic assistance, such as a moratorium on repayment of past massive loans sought by Africa, and distrust toward China seems to have spread among ordinary people as well.
Dr. Nick Ngwanyam, 63, director of the Health and Biomedical Research Institute at St. Louis University in Cameroon, said that test kits for checking infection had begun to spread from the capital, Yaoundé, to the provinces.
However, he stated:
“What is most concerning is that the detection level of Chinese-made kits is said to be very low. There is a possibility that the results obtained are far removed from the facts.”
Dr. Ngwanyam also said:
“China has quietly bought up Africa, and because of that, Africa has become unstable. We have now realized this.”
China, which is advancing the Belt and Road Initiative, is said to have lent at least 143 billion dollars, approximately 15.3 trillion yen, to African countries since 2000.
His remarks are believed to have in mind China’s “debt trap,” in which China presses political demands on countries that have difficulty repaying their debts.
According to Dr. Olasola Oshindero, 40, who works at a novel coronavirus infection-prevention facility in Lagos, Nigeria’s major city, China has sent not only medical equipment but also 15 doctors to the country.
However, he sees the quality of the service as low, and says that the technicians are not as capable as those from Europe and the United States.
Dr. Oshindero also criticized China’s policy, saying:
“The people do not trust China. The government received loans under conditions the people did not want.”
Since March, China has been sending large numbers of ventilators, masks, and other supplies to Africa as aid.
However, in Guangdong Province, rumors spread that African residents were the source of novel coronavirus infections, and discrimination reportedly occurred, including people being forced out of their homes.
An African news site also reported that China’s medical aid had the aim of wiping away negative impressions of China.
According to Reuters, German Finance Minister Scholz said in mid-April that, in order to support the poorest countries, including those in Africa, it was indispensable to grant a moratorium on debt repayment, and that “China’s contribution is very important.”
However, at the meeting of the Group of 20 countries and regions, the G20, China reportedly showed reluctance.
According to a tally by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, on the 4th, the total number of novel coronavirus infections across Africa was about 45,000, and the number of deaths had risen to about 1,800.
