2025年7月15日、京都・祇園祭宵山。
名称は宵山であるが、本作の写真は日中の京都で撮影したものである。
真夏の光の中に、山鉾、町家、提灯、通りを行き交う人々、そして千年以上続く祭の気配が静かに満ちていた。
この写真作品に合わせた音楽は、林光《吹きぬける夏風の祭》。
1985年度京都市委嘱作品として生まれたこの曲は、単なる祭の描写ではなく、京都の夏を吹き抜ける風、歴史の層、都市の記憶、人々の祈りを音にした作品である。
祇園祭の宵山は、夜の提灯の美しさだけで成り立っているのではない。
日中の強い光、鉾町の気配、準備を終えた山鉾の姿、街を流れる夏風の中にも、京都の祭の本質は現れている。
山鉾の佇まい、通りの影、夏の空気、そして人々の歩み。
そこに林光の音楽が重なる時、祭は単なる年中行事ではなく、都市と文明の記憶として立ち上がる。
本作は、2025年夏の祇園祭宵山を、日中の写真と音楽によって記録するものである。
京都の夏を吹きぬける風を、世界へ。

Yoiyama of Kyoto’s Gion Festival.
Although it is called Yoiyama, the photographs in this work were taken during the daytime in Kyoto.
In the midsummer light, the festival floats, traditional townhouses, lanterns, people passing through the streets, and the atmosphere of a festival that has continued for more than a thousand years quietly filled the city.
The music chosen for this photographic work is Hikaru Hayashi’s Festival of the Summer Wind Passing Through.
Commissioned by the City of Kyoto in 1985, this work is not merely a depiction of a festival.
It gives sound to the summer wind passing through Kyoto, to the layers of history, to the memory of the city, and to the prayers of its people.
Yoiyama of the Gion Festival does not consist only of the beauty of lanterns at night.
In the strong daylight, in the atmosphere of the float districts, in the presence of the completed floats, and in the summer wind moving through the city, the essence of Kyoto’s festival also appears.
The stillness of the floats, the shadows of the streets, the summer air, and the movement of the people.
When Hayashi’s music is placed upon these images, the festival rises not merely as an annual event, but as the memory of a city and a civilization.
This work records Yoiyama of the Gion Festival in the summer of 2025 through daytime photography and music.
The summer wind of Kyoto, sent out to the world.
