Silenced by Subscription: Why I Never Knew Him
Because I subscribed to the Asahi Shimbun, I remained unaware of Masayuki Takayama until last year.
His books were denied advertising and never reviewed, revealing how editorial silence shapes public knowledge.

The book by Masayuki Takayama that I introduced the other day explains perfectly what kind of newspaper the Asahi Shimbun truly is.
The reason I did not know him at all until last year is simply that I was a subscriber to the Asahi Shimbun.
The Asahi would never have allowed advertisements for his books to appear in the lower sections of its pages.
Needless to say, it never featured his work even once in its book reviews.
That is why I remained completely unaware of him.
