The Notre-Dame Cathedral Fire and My Feelings for France: Reflections on Media Coverage of Japan
November 30, 2023
A friend of mine, an avid reader, told me that Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was burning and asked whether I had seen the news.
Naturally, I did not know, because in the mornings I watch only sports broadcasts on services such as MLB.TV.
The first things that came to mind were as follows.
Whether it took the anti-Japanese propaganda of the country of “unfathomable evil” and “plausible lies” at face value or took advantage of it, two years earlier a Paris television station had brought on young women and others to criticize Japan, seizing on the publication in Paris of the ludicrous book My Life Was Ruined by a Groper by a woman calling herself Kume Sasaki, who had undergone extensive cosmetic surgery and was obviously not a genuine Japanese person.
NHK, the most foolish broadcaster among those of the developed countries, likewise took advantage of it, first on News Watch 9 and then the following night on its international news program on BS, devoting a lengthy segment to the story and gleefully reporting it as ideal material with which to attack Japan.
- When I consider that NHK is even more malicious, God’s punishment should have fallen on NHK rather than on Notre-Dame Cathedral… For someone who loved France, the sight of Notre-Dame Cathedral burning and collapsing was, as can be seen on the Internet, as heartbreaking and tear-inducing as 9/11.
If that was God’s punishment…
There was Le Monde’s condemnation of Japan over the questioning of Ghosn, a man who seemed to be the embodiment of greed, driven by what was clearly an ideology of white supremacy.
Japan is the country that is most excessively cautious in the world when questioning criminals.
Faced with criticism of Japan that so openly displayed contempt, I thought, “Is this the end?” and came close to severing my ties with France.
As my readers know, at the time I denounced Le Clézio in this column, telling him he should be ashamed.
As you also know, I realized that France was not to blame… It was the work of those suffering from left-wing infantilism who control the media around the world.
And as you know, I have written that Woody Allen and I are the two people who love Paris more than anyone else in the world.
If that was God’s punishment… I found myself thinking that it should have fallen on the broadcaster of a certain country, controlled by people suffering from left-wing infantilism who have become embodiments of a self-denigrating view of history and anti-Japanese ideology as a result of GHQ’s brainwashing.
Not on Notre-Dame Cathedral, a World Heritage site.
Because it is far too sad.
